DAAD-Berlin Artists in Residence Project, Berlin

Run by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) or German Academic Exchange Service, it offers grants and scholarships to foreign artists, mostly for residency in Berlin known as its Berliner Künstlerprogramm (Artist in Residence in Berlin) programme.

Not stated. DAAD gallery though is in Zimmerstr. 90/91 10117 Berlin and office in Markgrafenstraße 37D-10117 Berlin. 

Who can apply?

Anyone except German nationals or artists already residing in Germany; artists in the field of fine arts, music and film; no age limit.

Application deadline

1st December 2016 for Residency beginning in 2018 (1st January or 30th June).

Residency length

12 months for composers, fine arts scholars and authors, 6 months for filmmakers

Residency expectations

The works of composers can be integrated as guest composers into Berlin Festivals, within the framework of the festival. Focus is on electro-acoustic music, multimedia performances, sound installations and exhibitions that spans across specializations.

What does the fee cover

Monthly grant, accommodation, travel/transport expenses. The organization also has a network of cultural institutions, museums, literature agencies, music and film festivals across Germany as well as guest professors to support the advancement of artists.

Additional info

Established for more than 40 years, DAAD has offered around 20 scholarships/grants per year worldwide.
