Grant to attend International Forum (Theatertreffen), Berlin

The International Forum or Theatertreffen is a two week event held in Berlin meant to be an artistic exchange platform organized by Berliner Festpiele with the support of Goethe Institut and the Swiss cultural foundation, Pro Helvetia. The International Forum offers a grant to sponsor selected theatre makers from all over the world to attend the two week event.

Who can apply?

Artists whom are active professionally in the theatre and are below 35 years of age from all over the world may apply.  Malaysians are to apply through the Goethe Institut Malaysia.

Application deadline

2017’s International Forum will take place on the 5 to 21 May 2017, calls for application opens in mid October 2016.

What does the grant provide

Hotel accommodation with breakfast, all programme cost and tickets to theatre performances of Theatertreffen and of Stückemarkt. Possibility of providing travel expenses depending on the country of origin and if funds allow.


Adequate mastery of the German language. Beneficiary is expected to attend all programmes and participate throughout the event’s tenure.  This includes taking part in practical workshop programme, participating in discussions at Theatertreffen Camp, joining excursions to Berlin’s cultural scenes and going to Berlin theatre performances.

Additional Info

Theatertreffen Stückemarkt is another festival within the Theatertreffen festival and is focus on playwriting, authorship and developing theatre language.
