Opportunity: George Town Festival, Malaysia

About

George Town Festival offers creative practitioners, educators and business operators opportunities to create new works and form relationships with an array of different community groups. Growing in scope and reach since it was inaugurated in 2010, the Festival is a valuable platform for theatre groups, dancers, choreographers, composers, musicians and other performing artists to reach local and international audiences.

This annual international festival celebrates George Town, one of Malaysia’s two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Festival enriches Penang’s cultural environment with a month-long showcase of local and international performances. A feast of theatre, music, dance, film arts, food, talks and more, it aims to “arouse wider public interest in the arts and encourage artistic expression, cultural exchange and dialogue.”

George Town Festival 2017 will take place from 28 July to 3 September, 2017 at multiple locations in Penang.

What they are looking for

The Festival website invites you to send your projects and ideas in visual art, dance, theatre, music, opera, workshops, talks, street performances and more. “Our favourite programmes are the ones that are quirky, inspiring, intriguing and relevant.”
