Opportunity: Think City Grants Programme

The Think City Grants Programme (TCGP) support projects and initiatives that contribute to making our cities more liveable, resilient and sustainable. This includes efforts such as conservation of heritage buildings, activating underused public spaces through arts, culture and heritage initiatives, research and studies that support conservation of our history and heritage, building capacity through workshops and classes and many more.

Projects meant to have a lasting impact require a considerable investment of time and money. Typically projects funded by TCGP take between six to eighteen months to implement. Initiatives funded by TCGP should be catalytic and creative in nature so among the projects sought out are those that help build community ties and involve lower income groups.

Who can apply?

Think City operates on a non-discriminatory approach. All applicants are welcome as long as their projects contribute to the betterment and rejuvenation of current focus cities: George Town, downtown Kuala Lumpur, Butterworth and downtown Johor Bahru.

What the grant provides

Funds up to RM200,000.00 for tangible projects such as heritage building restorations, pop-up parks; intangible projects such as training workshops, publications; projects that contribute to strengthening ties between communities and reviving certain spaces.

Think City does not fund routine maintenance or internal repairs of private properties, or construction work already underway. To ensure sustainability of project, one-off performances are not encouraged.

Applicants must provide key deliverables, expected outcomes including timeline and implementation plan as per the application form. Applicants are welcome to contact the Think City grants teams for assistance at any point.
