THE MPO CONTINUES ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION WITH BRAHMS’ DOUBLE AND BEETHOVEN’S FIFTH!
The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) continues its 20th anniversary with concerts that feature musical gems by Beethoven and Brahms scheduled on Saturday, 25 August 2018 at 8.30 pm and Sunday, 26 August 2018 at 3.00 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP).
Renowned conductor Eiji Oue returns to the podium to weave his magic on the MPO through three works chosen for the programme, which are number ones in some way; Beethoven’s Leonore Overture is the best known of all 11 overtures composed by him and his Fifth Symphony ranks as the most popular by any composer (virtually synonym for classical music itself) while Brahms’ Double Concerto stands above every other concerto for this pair of soloists.
The concerts will feature the debut of international violin virtuoso Soyoung Yoon who won the first prize at the Yehudi Menuhin Competition when she was 17. She went on to garner accolades at the Tchaikovsky and Queen Elisabeth Competitions and made her Carnegie Hall debut soon after. Yoon has performed with Russian and Belgian National Orchestras and collaborated with artists such as Maxim Vengerov and Ivor Bolton.
Also making a debut on the DFP stage is 32-year-old Hungarian cellist, István Várdai who is prize winners at the Geneva and David Popper International Music Competitions. Luminaries that he has performed with include Yuri Bashmet, Zoltan Kocsis and Gidon Kremer, and prominent orchestras such as the St. Petersburg Symphony and London Philharmonic.
Join in the continuous celebration for the MPO’s 20th anniversary with the best talents in classical music, only at DFP!
